  • I'm looking for an economical trip for one, expandable to two people in a double bedroom lodging for the both of them if two decide to travel.
    From London To Spain, valencia on British Airways. One of the travelers is a Silver Executive Club member on BA, who might be able to buy both tickets at Silver level discouts if they apply here.
    Dates passenger(s) want to be in Valincia are from the 11th of June till the 18th.
    Please ask for clarifications if need be.

  • Is there any particular reason for you to fly with British Airways? I'm British and like most of my fellow-Brits try to avoid them where possible because they are much, much more expensive than their rivals.
    At the moment there is an aviation price war taking place in Britain between a number of low-cost airlines and you can book flights with them over the Internet. The only drawback is that they don't fly to all the airports so you would have to fly to another airport then continue by road or rail - but the savings could be worth it.

    They don't fly to Valencia but do fly to Madrid and a return fare is 45 pounds on the outward journey and 65 pounds on the return. Since this is almost less than half of the BA price it might be worthwhile taking it and then travelling by road to Valencia.
    Or look at the www.go-fly.com for journeys on your day from London Stansted to Alicante.

    Here is what I've found for departure from London on June 11th, with a return on June 18th, confining the search solely to British Airways:
    For $192 per person, Travelocity shows a flight leaving London Gatwick Airport at 7:10PM on the 11th, arriving in Valencia Spain at 10:30PM. (The URL is terribly long.) http://webcenter.travelocity.netscape.com/airpdisp.ctl?SEQ=102088183831367105082002&LANG=EN
    The British Airways page shows the same flight listing - £ 109.00 per ticket, with a £ 5 discount if you book online, but choose a paper ticket (another terribly long URL):

    Purchasing the tickets through the British Airways site may end up costing even less - the Executive Club member will need to register and log in, then give his Club information to see if any discounts apply to this flight:


    Travelocity also lists several hotels in Valencia. I wasn't really sure if, by double bedroom, you meant 2 rooms, or two guests sharing a room, so I've included the listings for hotels within 6 miles of the Valencia airport going for less than $100US/night, per room, with both single and double occupancy pricing. The lists seem to use Euros in the specific listings, but $US in the general listing (my apologies for the terribly long URLs):

  • Hello Glyn,

    The reason being is that this was a bonus trip to a staff member that is usually arranged by BA for us. Having club membership was assumed to get a better deal than most of the competitors in overall price, but it doesn't seem like it.
    I will have a response from BA this evening and compare it to easyjet. I've gotten to know about easyjet via their Internet EasyEverything which is likely going to be, as you've stated, a better deal by saving more than half.
    I sure appreciate the valuble comment and would like to give BA the benefit of the doubt. ;-)

  • Glyn, How can the easyjet flights to Madrid be cheaper at £45.00 and £65.00 for each sector (total £110.00) when the original answer gave BA at £109.00. Plus easyjet charge credit card fees (which BA don't) and they only fly to Madrid so you then have the 200 or so miles to go by road (not very nice in the heat!) so the added cost of a bus ticket or rental car and meals and drinks along the way as easyjet do not provide free meals or drinks on the planes.
    I am a travel agent and if I had given that advice to a client I think I would have lost my job!
    For hotels, a very good website is www.needahotel.com - lots of pictures, detailed descriptions of the properties and location maps too. All bookable on-line.
